Pen Laser Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 4, 2026

Pen Laser is a Chrome extension for drawing on web pages and pointing with a laser while you teach, present, or record a demo. This policy explains what data it handles and where that data goes.

1. We Collect Nothing

Pen Laser does not collect, store, or transmit your data to us or to anyone else. There is no Pen Laser account, no Pen Laser server, and nothing is ever sent to KGP Talkie. The extension makes no network requests of any kind.

2. Your Drawings

Everything you draw, highlight, type or point at with the laser lives only in the memory of the tab you drew it in. It is never written to storage and never leaves your device. Reloading the page or closing the tab discards it.

3. What Is Stored On Your Device

Pen Laser remembers your preferences: the tool you last used, your colour, stroke width and laser width, and any keyboard shortcuts you changed. These are kept in Chrome's local extension storage on the device where you set them, so they survive from one page to the next.

None of this is ever synced. Pen Laser does not use Chrome's sync storage, so nothing crosses between your devices and nothing enters your Google account. Removing the extension deletes these preferences.

4. Screenshots

When you press Save screenshot, Pen Laser captures the visible part of the tab, draws your notes on top of it in your browser, and hands the PNG to Chrome's downloader. The image goes straight to your computer. It is never uploaded. A capture only ever happens when you ask for one.

5. Permissions, and Why They Are Needed

The extension runs on all sites because you can teach from any page, and its toolbar has to be able to appear wherever you are. On each page it adds its own drawing layer and toolbar, kept in a sealed part of the page so neither can affect the other. It does not read, collect, or record the content of the pages you visit, and it keeps no record of where you have been.

To make its keyboard shortcuts work, Pen Laser looks at each key you press only to check whether it matches one of its shortcuts, then lets it go. Keys are never stored or sent anywhere, and while you are typing in a field on the page it ignores them entirely.

The scripting permission is used for one thing: when you open the toolbar on a tab that was already open before the extension was installed or updated, it adds its own bundled drawing script to that tab. It never runs code fetched from anywhere else.

6. Analytics and Tracking

Pen Laser has no analytics, no tracking, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no ads.

7. Children

Pen Laser is a presentation tool and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

8. Changes To This Policy

If what the extension does with data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. Material changes will also be described in the extension's release notes.
